    Fulcrum has an outstanding opportunity for a Linux HPC Scientist to join our growing PRIME contract supporting the prestigious Naval Research Laboratory or NRL.  Located near the beautiful National Harbor in our Nation’s capital, this program is looking specifically for the combination of an Operational Linux SME with Research & Development experience.

     

    As the Principal member on a team of several Linux systems engineering and administration professionals, the Linux HPC Scientist must come ready to roll up their sleeves and leverage their Linux expertise with multiple operating systems, heterogeneous hardware and innovative HPC tools. The qualified candidate will design, operate, test and eventually maintain a highly secure, high-speed network infrastructure, in a mega distributed file & storage environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Working in a non-commoditized system environment, the Linux HPC Scientist will be responsible for architecting, deploying, and performance tuning large-scale IO subsystems; deploying across experimental, test and final production states.
    • Using former R&D experience solving complex tasks, use a variety of external resources (such as publications, dataset notes, academic research, etc.) to customize a variety of Operating Systems including: RedHat, CentOS, and Gentoo.
    • Work with a variety of servers, file systems, storage systems, automation and scripting tools and varying configurations and administration duties.
    • Building and compiling kernels for local and remote installation of images, patches and updates
    • Manage Distributed File Systems with low latency interconnects (e.g. Infiniband).
    • Implement new virtualization technologies and evaluating future needs for hybrid cloud storage utilization deployment
    • Lead the documentation of development scheduling, configurations, benchmarking, and equipment/software to report periodically on evaluations, to recommend solutions and publish accordingly.
    • Ensure all DoD Standard Technical implementation Guide (STIG), Information Assurance Vulnerability Alert (IAVA bulletin) procedures are documented; as well as participate in the Certification & Accreditation (C&A) for all systems.
    • Administer firewalls, LDAP and Kerberos
    • Evaluate and implement SELinux Policies in CentOS
    • Implement and administer TomCat, WebLogic, OpenScap, Yum, and Anadonda – Data Science Platform

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience as a distributed computing architect or developer with Linux.
    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Data Science field; a Master’s Degree is preferred and we welcome PhD candidates for this role.
    • 3 recent years of working in a High Performance Computing environment, preferably in both a Lab and production environment.
    • 10 Years of command line Linux experience at the kernel level. **We will if necessary, combine professional work experience with academic.**
    • Advanced scripting experience with at least 1 of the following: Bash, Perl, or Python for custom automation tasks as well as file management install tools such as Fedora, Anaconda or Cobbler.
    • Experience setting up distributed file systems, e.g. Andrews Filesystem (AFS).
    • Experience with DISA HBSS and DISA STIGs, specifically to perform necessary steps for certification and accreditation.
    • Experience with HPE’s SGI Management Suite.
